How do I get started with the Weather API?

This article describes the fastest way to get started with the Visual Crossing Weather API by constructing API queries using the Weather Data Services page.

Steps

  1. Navigate to Visual Crossing Weather Data Services
  2. Log in to your account (create a free trial account if necessary)
  3. Add one or more locations
  4. Construct a weather forecast or weather history data query.
  5. Check the data looks correct in the browser.
  6. Use the Weather API Query Builder to construct the Weather API query.

Step 1 – Navigate to Visual Crossing Weather Data Services

Visual Crossing Weather Data Services is the easiest way to view and download weather data. You can then create Weather API queries for the data you are viewing. For more information, please see Getting Started With Weather Data Services

Step 2 – Log in to your account

Use your email to create an account and log in. Your free trial includes a week of free access to the weather API. For pricing information, please see pricing editions

Step 3 -Add one or more locations

Add a location by address or latitude,longitude values.

Step 4 – Construct a weather forecast or weather history data query

There are three main types of data queries available:

Weather forecast – up to 15-days forecast by hour or day

Historical Data- hourly or daily historical weather observations.

Historical Summaries – statistical summaries for the typical weather by year, month, week and day.

Step 5 – Check the data looks correct in the browser.

You can view the results of the query directly in the browser and also download it in CSV format for use in external tools such as Microsoft Excel.

Step 6 – Use the Weather API Query Builder 

Once you are happy with the query you have created, you can now create the Weather API query by simply pressing the Query API button. For more information on the Weather API parameters and usage, please see Weather API Documentation.
